Chris Wilhoite becomes a Certified Sex Therapist

Chris is an accomplished sex therapist and works with couples in some complex issues they face. She utilizes many different modalities from an attachment-based perspective including Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Family Systems, Internal Family Systems, Gottman, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and Mindfulness-based therapy (MBCT) and tailors therapy to achieve the goals her clients desire. Not every tool works for every client, and her expertise in Experiential Therapy and Family and Marital Therapy combined with play therapy, narrative therapy, relational therapy, and person-centered therapy allows Chris to craft a unique solution as individual as you are, improving communication, intimacy, and sex.

As a culmination of six years of advanced sex therapy training, Chris is now an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist (CST) from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). Chris has extensive training in couples counseling and sex therapy, and helps clients to resolve religious sexual shame and trauma. To gain a greater understanding of how sexual anatomy and hormones influence sex and sexuality, she shadowed and worked with an OB/GYN for four months.

Chris received her Masters of Science in Psychology from California Southern University and wrote her thesis on the role of body image and sexual shame in women’s sexual dysfunction. She holds a certificate in drug and alcohol dependence. Chris is EMDR trained and EFT trained and is a sensitive and direct, sex-positive AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist. She is Gottman trained for couples counseling. She completed her second year of post-graduate training at Denver Family Institute. Chris integrates multiple modalities to fit her clients’ needs. She is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor in training.

Founded in 1967, The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) is a not-for-profit, interdisciplinary professional organization. With its history of impeccable standards for training, experience, and ethical behavior, AASECT is increasingly recognized as the guardian of professional standards in sexual health.
